Here's the thing, everyone knows someone or more likely multiple someones who are foolish. There's that guy at work who always makes stupid comments, that family member who never knows when, "enough is enough", There's that kid at school or on your kid's team, who always seems to be making poor decisions and there's even that person you go to church with that's a "little off". I'm convinced that most people keep a running list of the most foolish people they know. You may keep a small slip of paper tucked away somewhere with a few names scribbled on it or you may just keep a running mental list of the crazies in your life, either way, you've likely got a list. I've got a list too and here it is: Andy's Top 3 Most Foolish People 1. The person who assumes they've never been foolish. No one is perfect. We've all done things that we're not proud of. We've all said things we've regretted. We've all handled things poorly at one time or another. Don't forget that at some point in the past you were likely "that foolish person". Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Be patient with those around you. 2. The person who's quick to criticize. Sometimes we're quick to focus all of your energy on highlighting everyone else's crazy in an effort to avoid having to deal with ours. Here's a newsflash, remember your "crazy list", well think about this, you're probably on someone else's "crazy list". Let's strive to hold our tongues and remember that you're likely a "little off" as well. James 1:19 says, "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;" 3. The person who "always" feels called to speak. Just because something needs to be said doesn't mean that it should be said and more importantly, just because something should be said doesn't mean that you are called to say it. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Let me encourage you to stop and think before you speak. Be encouraged and keep moving forward. |
