So I'm at the beach the other day with my family and we spot what we are convinced are sharks out in the water. Now after just a minute or two we realize that the man eating shark was actually a dolphin and actually a whole pod of dolphins. So after the hype wears down, I settle back into reading my book and I look up and see my sons who are 13 and 15 sitting in this pond type of thing. It's this area that was formed when the tide came in and then went out and left this little part that's probably like 6 inches deep and the width and length of a car, and they're just sitting in it playing in the sand. What's funny about this is that they were sitting in this little pond literally just like 10 feet from the whole ocean. I'm looking at them and I'm thinking, "What are they doing?" And then it clicks with me, even though they turned out to be dolphins, the threat of a shark has been planted in their minds. They spent the rest of our time at the beach that day just wading in ankle deep water. As I was watching this unfold I was reminded of the Scripture in Eph. 3:20 that says, "God can do anything, far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us." I wonder how often you and I sit just by the edge of the wide open ocean in a 6 inch deep puddle because we've allowed a spirit of fear to overtake us?
So we live our lives in fear sitting in a little puddle while the wide open ocean is just feet away. The open is full of possibilities and so is a life lived in confidence knowing that God is in control. Here's my prayer for you and I today...that we would be people who are not content to hang out near the edge of what God has for us but rather that we would dive in to an ocean full of possibilities. |
